The audiology team at Concepts in Hearing is here to answer common concerns about new hearing aid technology. As one of the best hearing solutions on the market, it’s important to understand how they work, as well as their benefits.

A Quick Guide to Direct Streaming Hearing Aids

What is Direct Streaming?

Direct Streaming in hearing aids utilizes Bluetooth connectivity. Bluetooth is a wireless communication platform that allows for the transfer of data between two or more electronic devices. The technology uses radio waves set to a high frequency to transmit data without interference or security risks.

How does Bluetooth work in a Hearing Aid?

Traditional wireless hearing aids used compatible assistive listening devices, often called streamers, to provide a communication link between the wireless technology in the hearing aids and any Bluetooth-enabled device. Currently, Apple has patented Bluetooth technology with Signia and Starkey Hearing Instruments to allow hearing aids to directly connect with the iOS platform found in the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. Phonak Hearing Instruments is coming out with a new product line next week which includes a direct streaming blue tooth device that is compatible with iPhones as well as Android cell phones. More information about this product will be available in the upcoming week!

Are They Difficult to Use?

Despite having more technological features, Bluetooth hearing aids offer a variety of conveniences. Most brands have seamless control apps for your smart phone which are easy to use and give patient’s the option to easily adjust their hearing aids as needed.
